​Beyond the AAS degree in Veterinary Technology

There are many opportunities for Veterinary Technician graduates. This website is designed to show some of the possibilities available to you upon graduation.

Along with the continuing education that is required to renew your veterinary technician certification every year, some academies may require additional education that pertains to their specialty. Find out what oppurtunities you can take advantage of.

Advice From The Experts

Teri Raffel, CVT, VTS (Surgery)

Teri tells all about how to apply to the Academy of Veterinary Surgical Technicians, what can be gained once a specialist, and talks about what to expect when taking the board exam.

Jill Medenwaldt, CVT, VTS (Dentistry)

Jill lets us know what being a specialist in dentistry is all about and what's important when going through the application process. 

Linda Merrill, LVT, VTS (Small Animal Internal Medicine/ Clinical Practice)

 

Linda tells us about the small animal internal medicine and clinical practice specialties. She explains the benefits of having two specialties as well. ​

Ann Wortinger, BIS, LVT, VTS (Nutrition/ Internal Medicine/ Emergency and Critical Care)

Ann Wortinger tells us why she is passionate about nutrition and why it plays an important role in veterinary medicine. She also gives advice on what to expect on the exam.

Lisa Bach, CVT, BA, CPDT-KA, CBCC-KA, ACCBC

Although she isn't in the NAVTA academy, Lisa is part of many other organizations that recognize her achievements in Behavior. She tells us a bit about her organizations and her personal process of going through the NAVTA Behavior academy application. 

Liz Phipps, CVT

Liz is currently working on obtaining her specialty in internal medicine with a focus in oncology. She walks us through the application process and give us some helpful tips. 

Kim Sprecher, CVT

While Kim does not have a specialty in Emergency and Critical Care she walks us through the application process and gives helpful advise to those pursuing a specialty in this area. 

Trisha Roehling, CVT, VTS (Anesthesia)

Trish, a graduate from MATC's Vet Tech Program talks to us about how she obtained her specialty in Anesthesia. She gives us some great advice on the application process.
